With Piper Perabo, Lauren Graham, Gabriel Macht and Sophina Brown.

The Messengers (PG-13 for mature themes, terror, and disturbing violence) A sci-fi horror flick, about a family divided by the suspicious, paranormal phenomena occurring on their sunflower farm. Cast includes Dylan McDermott, Kristen Stewart, John Corbett and Penelope Ann Miller.

Those filmmakers just love to make Mandy Moore sing when she does a movie. Can’t they just let her act? In Because I Said So, she performs two numbers with actors playing her mom (Diane Keaton) and sisters (Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo).

Movies of all kinds fill weeks until Tarantino's big return

Diane Keaton, Hugh Grant, Chris Rock and Sandra Bullock all have movies coming out in the next few months. But the one I'm laser-locked on stars Electra Avellan as Baby Sitter Twin No. 2. She will appear in both "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror," the cheeky, sleazy, twin-bill concoction coming Friday, April 6, from directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez under the banner of "Grindhouse." Tarantino never disappoints. Can't wait. But until then, here's a sneak peek of some of the flicks hitting our multiplexes in the next 10 weeks.

Spring Arts Preview: Film

Typically, the first quarter of the year is thin on motion-picture masterpieces. The studios often use the hard, fallow spell of January and February to jettison projects they shouldn't have bankrolled in the first place. But, if not salad days, you can call what's coming in the next few months a nice spring mix: a little romance, a lot of bloodshed, some screwball nuttiness and serious grown-up fare and fantasy, and a bit of family fun. Between now and May 4, when a tormented Peter Parker dons his web-slinger suit for Spider-Man 3 -launching what Hollywood considers summer and the rest of us think of as the first decent thaw - more than 70 films will hit theater screens. Big stars (Drew Barrymore, Sandra Bullock, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Jude Law, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Hilary Swank) will jostle for attention alongside smart little indies (The Astronaut Farmer, Puccini for Beginners, The Situation) and the sort of solid, mid-tier action pics and horror sequels that are the studios' bread and butter.

Lindsey's Top Ten Movies of 2006

Yes! Finally a writing assignment that lets me unite my obsessive love of lists with my slightly less obsessive dedication to Netflix. Before I dive right into the top ten, however, I’d like to offer the following side notes: You will not find "The Departed" anywhere on my top ten list. This does not mean that "The Departed" is not one of the best movies of the year- it probably is, and a lot of other top ten lists seem to back this point- but I haven’t seen it. So, the exclusion is in the name of honesty, and has nothing to do with my unrelenting dislike of one Mr. DiCaprio. The omission of "Blood Diamond", however, completely does. For that matter, you won’t find anything that was created by Al Gore or that has deep cultural messages to impart. It’s possible that I should have made time to sit through "Flags of our Fathers", but I’m a girl, and "Ugly Betty" was on.
