Nicole KidmanNicole Kidman hurt on film set
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and seven other people suffered minor injuries on a Los Angeles film set on Thursday when her car crashed into a lamp post during filming, police said. Kidman, who was behind the wheel of a Jaguar rigged for filming when it struck the post, was examined at a local hospital after the incident, Los Angeles Police spokeswoman Karen Smith said. Smith said seven other people on the set of the alien thriller "The Invasion" went to local hospitals complaining of injuries after the 1 a.m. (9 a.m. British time) crash but that none was seriously hurt. Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind "The Invasion", confirmed that Kidman was taken to the hospital after the crash but said she was quickly released and would be back on set when filming resumed later on Thursday. "No other actors were involved in the scene at the time of the incident," Warner Bros. said in a written statement. "Two additional crew members sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision," Warner Bros. said. "The production took the appropriate steps following the incident to ensure the safety of cast and crew." There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy in the number of injured listed by the police and the studio. Nicole Kidman In 50mph Zombie Car Smash -FootageBut that's another bulletpoint that Nicole Kidman can scrub off her wishlist - yesterday, on the set of her new movie Invasion, Nicole Kidman's stunt car blazed off course and ploughed into a metal post at around 50mph, causing Nicole Kidman and the other passengers such serious injuries that a hospital took two hours to decide that she was OK. On the plus side, Nicole Kidman is thinking about submitting footage of her crash to the TV show On-Set Zombie Stunt Cars Do The Most Potentially Fatal Things, and she stands to win £100 if the clip is shown. We've got that clip, too, but you'll have to keep reading for that. Nicole Kidman hurt in stuntNICOLE Kidman was injured in a car accident on the Los Angeles set of her latest movie The Invasion on Wednesday. The Oscar winner was taken to hospital when a sports car she was riding in slammed into a post at more than 70km/h. Kidman was released "shortly after" being admitted. A steel trailer built around the Jaguar probably saved her life. The crash was filmed by paparazzi and footage of the accident was on a Hollywood gossip website within hours. One crew member can be heard yelling: "Are you OK?" Some crew members hold a sheet up to protect Kidman from paparazzi, but the shaken 39-year-old actor is shown walking away from the car. She walks slowly, but does not seem to be injured. "Eight people, one of them Nicole Kidman, were in the car," LA police said. Kidman was due to return to the set yesterday. She was being comforted by her husband, country crooner Keith Urban, who had been on the set before the accident with Kidman's son, Connor. Kidman is being paid a record $21.8 million for The Invasion. In the high-action scene, Kidman was inside the car as five stuntmen, who play zombie-like creatures in the remake of the 1956 classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, clung to the outside of the vehicle. The sci-fi film, co-starring Daniel Craig, is set for release in Australia in September. Nicole Kidman in minor car crash during LA filming of sci-fi thriller 'The Invasion'January 26, 2007 (LOS ANGELES) - Nicole Kidman was taken to a hospital after the Jaguar she was in crashed early Thursday during downtown shooting of the science fiction thriller "The Invasion," police said. Kidman, 39, was examined at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and then released a short time later. Paramedics were called to examine Kidman for injuries before she was taken to the hospital, police said. "Nicole Kidman was in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. She was released shortly thereafter," Warner Bros. said in a statement. No other actors were involved in the scene at the time of the accident, the studio said. The Jaguar was being towed by a camera rig that skidded while taking a corner and caused Kidman's car to hit a pole on West Sixth Street, police said. The actress was wearing a seat belt. "The stunt driver apparently went off course and hit a light post at about 1 a.m.," police Officer Karen Smith said. Eight people, including Kidman, stuntmen and cameramen, were taken to hospitals for examination and were released, Smith said. Warner Bros. said two crew members had minor injuries. Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., also said production continued after the crash and Kidman was expected back on the set Thursday. The Oscar-winning actress, who stars as a Washington psychiatrist who unearths the origin of an alien epidemic, was involved in a scene involving an escape from zombielike characters who are on the hood of the car.
