Kate Bosworth Jumps Into Cast of 21

While you won't usually see me perusing the pages of Women's Wear Daily, or even surfing its website, that bastion of ladies' fashion has a bit of news on the next step in the career of Kate Bosworth. The actress was interviewed during Paris Fashion Week and revealed that she is the most recent addition to the cast of 21, a true story set in the casinos of Las Vegas. The film is based on the book Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions (you can see how 21 might fit more comfortably on a poster) and tells the story of a handful of young men who devised a formidable system for winning at blackjack. The book, published in 2002, was the first non-fiction work from novelist Ben Mezrich.

The Columbia Pictures film will be directed by Robert Luketic (as mentioned here by Martha Fischer) who previously helmed Legally Blonde and Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!, the latter of which also starred Bosworth. Kevin Spacey, who worked with Bosworth in Superman Returns will both appear in 21 and serve as one of the film's producers. The movie will also star Laurence Fishburne, Liza Lapira, Josh Gad, Jim Sturgess and Masi Oka. Production will commence next month in Boston and Las Vegas.

Kate Bosworth Hits Down On 21

According to an interview by WWD at French fashion show, the Superman Returns actress said she'll be starting to shoot the true story drama in Boston. "Certain scenes will be shot [there], where I'm from, so my parents are thrilled." 21 is based on the Ben Mezrich's best-seller, Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions. It stars Laurence Fishburne, Liza Lapira, Josh Gad, Jim Sturgess, Masi Oka, and Kevin Spacey, who will also produce the film. The film also marks a reunion for Kate with Spacey and director Robert Luketic; she's worked twice with Spacey on Beyond the Sea and Superman Returns. Robert directed Kate in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!. Shooting on 21 is scheduled to begin next month in Boston and then in Las Vegas.

Kate Bosworth Mostly Dead

Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play someone who’s not quite dead. Production Weekly has her pegged as the lead in After.Life, a supernatural thriller about a young woman trapped between life and death fighting to avoid being buried alive by a funeral director.

The high-concept movie is written and directed by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo, whose last movie (her first) Pate was about a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Big ideas seem to be her thing, with Bosworth on board maybe this will be the one that gets recognition.

Kate isn’t the only significant film commodity eager to be mostly dead, Wojtowicz-Vosloo has also landed two-time Oscar nominated cinematographer John Mathieson. You might remember his work from such films as Gladiator, K-Pax, Matchstick men, and The Phantom of the Opera. Though her past work might have been small time, this one seems to be grabbing some high-profile attention.

On its own, I like the concept. Will Kate be a ghost? Depends on what trapped between life and death means. The ghost thing has been done to death, it might be interesting if it meant she’s trapped insider her body watching, but unable to move. While we’re at it, is being buried really her only concern? Usually before burial the body is subjected to all sorts of gutting and cutting, the type that might make living rather difficult. Buried alive seems to me to be the least of her worries.

Kate Bosworth talking 'After.Life'.

Production Weekly reports that Kate Bosworth is in talks to star in writer/director Agnieszka Vosloo's supernatural thriller After.Life. The story chronicles a young woman in a transitional state between life and death who fights to avoid being buried alive and the funeral director who holds her fate in his hands. Two-time Oscar nominee John Mathieson (Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven) has signed on as cinematographer, with production scheduled to begin later this year.
