Immigrant Gets Jail Time for Stalking Hilary Duff

A teenager accused of stalking pop star/actress Hilary Duff was sentenced to 117 days in jail after pleading no contest to the charges brought against him. Duff, 20, received a protection order against Maksim Myaskovskiy, 18, in October after he allegedly tried to contact her in the California neighborhood of her then boyfriend, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden. Myaskovskiy was arrested on November 3 when he threatened to harm Duff at an event she was scheduled to attend. He was taken into custody for making criminal threats and stalking. In addition to jail time, a Superior Court judge also ordered Myaskovskiy to serve five years probation at the hearing on Friday.

Maksim Myaskovskiy was ordered held in Los Angeles County jail immediately after he pleaded no contest on Friday to the stalking charge. He was also sentenced to five years’ probation by Judge Thomas Sokolov in Torrance Superior Court, south of Los Angeles. Myaskovskiy was arrested in November after a private investigator working for the 19-year-old Duff alleged the youngster had threatened to kill her. About a month earlier, Duff and her then-boyfriend, rock singer Joel Madden of the band Good Charlotte, had sought restraining orders against Myaskovskiy and his roommate. Duff, who rose to fame in the Disney children’s TV series Lizzie McGuire, has appeared in such movies as the Cheaper By the Dozen comedies and Material Girls. She has also topped the US pop album charts.

Duff and her boyfriend at the time, Joel Madden, had obtained 100-yard restraining orders against Myaskovskiy and his roommate, celebrity photography David Joseph Klein, who was accused of approaching Duff and her boyfriend on his roommate's behalf. The "Lizzie Maguire" star's information provided for the restraining orders, which claimed Myaskovskiy had traveled to the United States two years ago "solely for the purpose of making contact with Duff." E! Online also said court documents alleged the man had become obsessed with the young star and was intending to buy a gun in order to "commit dramatic acts to get her attention."
