Pop queen Gwen Stefani is now the second star booked by George Maloof for his brand new Pearl Theater at the Palms, but he's still remaining silent about the opening night attraction and the lineup. Luxe Life has learned that, in the next few days, he'll be forced to reveal the stars and concerts, as the rockers and singers themselves have started leaking the news to fans and ticket brokers!

Stefani was originally signed to appear at the Palms on April 28, but she's now moved it forward to April 21. Yesterday Luxe Life broke the news that a trio of rockers will play the Pearl at the Palms on the opening March weekend. (Click here for that story.) For Evanescence, it's the second date of their new tour, which begins the night before in Fresno. They're on the road promoting their new album 'The Open Door' that has already racked up 1.5 million copies sold in just 15 weeks! Rock experts tell me that the Palms tycoon scored a major coup with the three rock groups because the touring acts are only playing large arenas and his Pearl Theater provides a much closer, smaller and more intimate concert venue.

CD review: 'The Sweet Escape' by Gwen Stefani

After the much-anticipated "Love. Angel. Music. Baby." album of 2004 was released, no one expected Grammy-winning No Doubt's fashion chameleon and vocalist bombshell to turn around and do it all again. Just when it looked that Gwen Stefani's solo ride had come to an end, she took up the reins again, releasing "The Sweet Escape" in December 2006. Stefani is compared to Bowie and Blondie and inspired by Prince, and her talent as seen on her latest album leaves our mouths watering for more. Her reputation of eclectic mix is more than justified on "The Sweet Escape." The album packs pop hits, techno beats, raps, and even a cooing baby Kingston on the track "Yummy." One might assume that Gwen's latest undertaking will become a universal hit, pleasing all listeners' appetites. However, with edgy creativity and contrast, like the use of yodeling in a rap song, obviously not everyone will appreciate this album. With a few exceptions, a sense of humor is almost a requirement. When asked during a recent MTV interview what is next for her, Gwen replied coolly that she wanted to enjoy the moment. With "The Sweet Escape" in my car stereo this winter, I think I'll be enjoying that moment, too.

The Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani

You could have predicted the demise of “The Sweet Escape” before it hit the shelves. It’s the same old story: artist releases a rushed second album off the back of a hit debut, expecting the same success, only to realise after lukewarm reviews that the record-buying public aren’t quite stupid enough to swallow the rehashed off-cuts of initial success.

The lack of inspiration manifests itself in an album which is insubstantial, schizophrenic, and plagiarises so heavily from hits of the recent past it’s surprising its creators haven’t yet been served with summons. Opening track “Wind It Up” is a case in point, beginning with Sound of Music yodelling before proceeding to rip off “My Humps” with mind-boggling insouciance. Yet Stefani still has enough charisma to instil it with some of the sugary eccentricity that made L.A.M.B a hit. It’s just a shame she’s not really trying.
